The Presentation
When we come to altar rail, we bring our whole selves. In these tumultuous days, I'm bringing a flurry of emotions and asking the Holy Spirit to transform them so I can be about God's work of justice and peace in the world.
To Catch Us All
The sermon emphasizes the importance of deepening connections with others as a remedy against societal fractures. Using 1 Corinthians, it advocates practicing gratitude, fostering "I-Thou" relationships, and nurturing close bonds. By engaging with others meaningfully, we can strengthen our connections and embody God's love, ultimately countering isolation and dehumanization.
Common Cause
This sermon emphasizes the importance of the Holy Spirit in fostering a sense of commonality among believers for the greater good. It reflects on the decline of shared values and experiences in society while urging the Episcopal community to rekindle common cause through collective prayer and action, addressing social fragmentation with love and unity.
The Painting in Nazareth
A sermon about biblical role models, centering on a reflection of Joseph, my biblical role model as a parent.
The Dawn from on High
A sermon about the Song of Zechariah with a little help from The Lord of the Rings
Ah! Bright Wings
A sermon about God being bigger than we can possibly imagine and what happens when we reduce an uncontainable God to fit into a container.
Love and Good Deeds
As we follow Jesus, we practice awareness, action, and reflection in our daily opportunities to spread goodness and share love. So instead of inciting violence, incite love and good deeds.
The Future
A sermon about following God into the future that will happen instead of stumbling alone into a hundred invented futures that won't happen.
God is Present
A sermon about God's presence in our lives, reflecting on Jesus weeping before going to the grave of Lazarus.
Never Alone
This sermon discusses Jesus' teachings on divorce and adultery, emphasizing his vision for deep relationships that prevent loneliness. It highlights the protective purpose of Moses's law while affirming Jesus' call for connection and mutual care in relationships.
A Loving Prescription
A sermon that ties the last two together, in which Jesus loves a person enough to tell him what he needs to do in order to embrace life.
Letting Go the Grail
A sermon about choosing relationship with God over our impediments to that relationship...also...Indiana Jones.
The Unbroken Circle
A story sermon about Jesus teaching the apostles after they argue with each other about which of them is the greatest.
Our Identities
A sermon about identity, especially about the two most important facets of our identities: "child of God" and "follower of Jesus."
